Principal

The Principal shall report directly to the Caprock Academy Board of Directors. Personnel matters will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines prescribed by the Board. The Principal will be responsible for day-to-day decision making, human resource management, testing and informational requests from the Institute. Human resource management responsibilities include hiring, annual reviews, terminations, and staff meetings. The Principal will also be responsible for personnel scheduling, arranging for substitute teachers, and other administrative functions as required. The Principal will delegate administrative work as appropriate.

The Principal shall be licensed by the State of Colorado, and/or shall have specific experience, training, and knowledge necessary to fulfill the duties of the position, including, but not limited to, the following: four-year degree, a knowledge of and responsibility for compliance with federal and state laws with matters concerning, but not limited to, child abuse reporting, the Open Meetings Law, the Public Records Law, student due process rights, nondiscrimination, and special education.

The CABD shall be responsible for hiring the Principal Administrator, and ensuring that the Principal’s credentials meet certification, licensure, and/or specific experience, training and knowledge requirements.

Director of Curriculum

1. Serve as a part of the leadership team in leading the school community in achieving the mission of the school, with a focus on academic leadership.

2. Foster innovation and improvements to the educational program by all members of the school community.

3. Effectively involves staff, parents, and students in implementing the curriculum and educational program

4. Promote and model productive communications and teamwork among school staff and parents.

5. Assist Head Master in meeting accountability standards and using student data to evaluate and promote a school culture focused on student achievement.

6. Supports and guides professional teaching staff.

7. Develop and implement professional development plan for teaching staff.

8. Assist in interviewing and hiring of teaching staff.

9. Mentor teaching staff in effective delivery of the total educational program.

10. Create plans for regular communication between teaching staff and administration.

11. Assist with classroom teachers in making sure students feel a part of the community.


Director of Assessment and Data

The Director of Assessment and Data will report directly to the Headmaster.  S/he develops the assessment schedules, supports and guides the faculty with data, and assists in student assessment coordination and analysis.  S/he will:

1. Ensure that the assessments and data is used by faculty to assess students’ needs and is content-aligned with the Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values;

2. Help faculty to use data to implement educational strategies complementary to the Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values;

3. Establish and monitor the annual master schedule for assessment  (NWEA, CSAP, DRA2,EXPLORE,PLAN, ACT) ;

4. Establish and monitor the annual master schedule for classes;

5. Assist the faculty with data ensuring that each student can meet or exceed Colorado State Standards;

6. Aid teachers in the interpretation of data;

7. Act as Gifted/Talented Coordinator and administer COGAT to third graders for G/T designation and ALPs;

8. Evaluate incoming students through diagnostic tests;

9. Maintain current knowledge of relevant state, federal, and local laws and regulations
        i. (including Colorado Charter School Institute) about assessment and disseminate that information to appropriate Caprock Academy parties;

10. Attend CABD monthly business meetings;

11. Submit written reports, upon request, to the CABD or Headmaster;

12. Attend other Academy or community meetings as requested by the Headmaster;

13. Work with the Director of Curriculum to provide professional development opportunities for the faculty through an in-service training program;

14. Use data to evaluate and promote an Academy culture focused on student achievement.


Dean of Students

1. Serve as a part of the leadership team in leading the school community in achieving the mission of the school, with a focus on academic leadership.

2. Responsible for implementing testing and evaluation of students on a regular basis

3. Assist the Director of Curriculum in utilizing student data to evaluate and promote school culture.

4. Promote and model productive communications and teamwork among school staff and parents.

5. Assist Head Master in meeting accountability standards and using student data to evaluate and promote a school culture focused on student achievement.

6. Responsible for overseeing federal and state special programs such as Title I and Special Education.

7. Communicate with parents about specific student concerns.

8. Assist in interviewing and hiring of teaching staff.

9. Track and monitor school wait list.

10. Assist in the development and oversight with the implementation of a student discipline and classroom management plan.

11. Ensure student needs are met in the areas of Special Education, English Language Learner, and at-risk student populations.


Other Administrative Staff

CA will hire other administrative staff to support the Principal in running the school effectively.

Teachers - Grades K Through 8

Teachers for grades K through 7 will be responsible for implementing curriculum, coordinating with classroom aides, maintaining current attainment level information, assigning additional studies to students not meeting or exceeding attainment, keeping accurate and concise records, establishing personal classroom procedures, assisting in teaching materials selection, and assigning students to appropriate ability groups. Teachers will also be responsible requesting parent volunteers, and reporting all education related activities to the Principal or designee.

All full-time teachers will be required to be onsite from 7:30 to 3:15 Monday through Thursday. All teachers will be in attendance to needed and identified professional development and conferences held on Fridays. Teachers will also be required to serve on committees and teach electives as assigned by the Principal.

All teachers must have at least a four-year degree in any discipline and a strong desire to work with an innovative educational program. Highly qualified teachers will be identified through the NCLB Highly Qualified Handbook. Experience with developing curriculum, teaching in a Classical environment and experience with Core Knowledge is desirable. Primary Grade teachers will be responsible for beginning Latin instruction. Master Teacher or a MEd is the preferred educational level we will seek.

Special Education Teacher(s)

The special education teacher or teachers will work with children one-on-one or in small groups for all grade levels. The special education teachers will be hired by CA in cooperation with CCSI. CA will hire related staff for services needed as required by IEP’s such as: speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, and teacher of the learning disabled.

Classroom Instructional Assistants - Grades K Through 7

Classroom Instructional Assistants (CIAs) will help the teachers in the following areas: implementing curriculum; maintaining current attainment level information; reporting attainment levels below minimum or early attainment to the teacher; keeping accurate and concise records; following established classroom procedures; requesting teaching materials for the teacher; requesting supplementary education materials for the teacher; requesting parent volunteers; and, reporting all education related activities to the teacher. CIAs on occasion may teach, however their primary function is to work with children one-on-one or in small groups, so as to help each child fulfill his or her academic potential. All CIAs will be paid on an hourly basis. All CIAs must possess a strong desire to work with an innovative educational program.

Requirements for Assistants - 2 years of college, preferably an AA or H.S. diploma and a para-professional assessment.
