Making Money for Caprock - The EASY Way!

    2009-01-25

    No Cost Fundraising

(AKA, Additional cost to you?  No way!)

    (Please keep for easy reference)

At Caprock Academy, we value our children focusing on learning, not generating revenue for our school.  So, we’ve found opportunities for parents to participate in fundraising partnerships without much effort at all, and by doing things we all do everyday.  Below is a list of affiliations we’ve established thus far and how to participate.  Questions?  Please contact Barbara Queally, Chair of Fundraising:  mikebarb1@earthlink.net.

    Box Tops
    Contact:  Angie Ingalls:  ingalls@bresnan.net
    Sponsor:  Parent Booster Club
How it works:  Twice per year, box tops are collected from every Caprock classroom, counted and sent in.  Caprock gets .10 or more for each box top.  No cost to you.  At year’s end, the class that submitted the most box tops gets a party.
To participate:  Collect “box top” labels from packaging and send to school with your child(ren).  Participation in the Parent Booster Club means your vote counts in how the proceeds are spent.
Community involvement:  Have friends and family save their box tops.  Can you put a can or shoe box at work labeled “Box Tops for Caprock Academy”?
Caprock receives:  .10 or more for each box top label.

    Campbell Soup Labels
    Contact:  Jennifer Mendenhall:  jennie4_m@yahoo.com
    Sponsor:  Parent Booster Club
How it works: Labels are collected and submitted for points. Points are accumulated and can be redeemed for school equipment.  No cost to you.
To participate:  Remove labels from Campbell’s soup cans and bring to our school office.  Participation in the Parent Booster Club means your vote counts in how the proceeds are spent.
Community involvement:  Have friends and family save their soup labels.  Can you put a can or shoe box at work labeled “Campbell Soup Labels for Caprock Academy”?
Caprock receives:  points toward purchasing equipment for our school.

    SCRIP
    Contact:  Melissa Lindquist:  troymel7@bresnan.net
    Sponsor:  Parent Booster Club
How it works:  For businesses you normally patronize (i.e., Safeway, Burger King, Land’s End), buy gift cards through SCRIP and our school receives a percentage from the retailer.  No cost to you.
To participate:  Sign up at ShopwithScrip.com or fill out the Scrip order form in our school office.  Orders are sent in weekly and must be received at school on Tuesdays by 8 a.m. (send a print-out of your online order and a check to school with your child, if you’d like).  Gift cards are sent home the following Thursday.  Participation in the Parent Booster Club means your vote counts in how the proceeds are spent.
Community involvement:  Ask friends and family to build a SCRIP account with Caprock as the recipient.  Buy gift cards as gifts.
Caprock receives:  a percentage of each sale from the retailer.

    GoodSearch
    Contact:  Laura Livingston:  lifehelpgj@yahoo.com
    Sponsor:  Fundraising Committee
How it works:  Use the internet?  Every time you search ANYTHING, if you’ve signed up with Caprock Academy as your “charity,” our school gets .01.  Shop through GoodShop, a subcategory of GoodSearch, and generate even more revenue.  FYI:  GoodSearch uses Yahoo as its search engine.  No cost to you.
To participate:  Go to GoodSearch.org and type in Caprock Academy as your charity of choice.  Add GoodSearch to your tool bar so you remember to use it every time.
Community involvement:  Have friends and family use GoodSearch with Caprock Academy as their charity.
Caprock receives:  Every search =  .01 – doesn’t sound like much, but look at the table below:

    gs

Community involvement:  Have friends and family save their Nestle Water labels.  Can you put a can or shoe box at work labeled “Nestle Water bottle labels for Caprock Academy”?

To participate: Drop off empty printer cartridges in the box in our school office.
Community Involvement:  Ask your friends, family and neighbors to collect empty cartridges.  Can you put a can or shoe box at work labeled “Recycle empty printer cartridges for Caprock Academy”?

    Contact:  Christy Fry:  cfry@mprbike.com

Community involvement:  Ask friends or family members who use a Target REDcard to designate Caprock Academy as their school of choice.

    Uniform Exchange
    Contact:  Teresa Black:  teresablack@bresnan.net
    Sponsor:  Parent Booster Club
How it works: Clean, tear-free and unstained uniform items are collected and displayed for exchange or purchase at CAST/Booster Club meetings. Participation in the Parent Booster Club means your vote counts in how the proceeds are spent.  No cost to you.
To participate: Bring your clean, tear-free and unstained uniform items to a Booster Club meeting. Pick up items on a one-to-one exchange or get "credit" toward future purchases.  Nothing to exchange?  You can still shop at bargain prices.

    Herberger’s Community Day Sale

    2009-02-22

    Herberger's

    VOLUNTEER HOURS AVAILABLE

We need volunteers to sell coupon booklets for the Herberger’s Community Day Sale.  In order to earn a place in the store on the day of the sale, Caprock has to be one of the top selling organizations leading up to sale day (Saturday, February 28th).

Our goal is 1,000 coupon books, which would raise $5,000 towards our capital construction fund.

If you are looking for volunteer hours, we need people to sell in Herberger’s any day leading up to the day of the sale.  (These coupons are an easy sell to Herberger’s customers.  All you have to do is sit at a table with the coupons available.  The coupon books contain several 20% off coupons and a $10 off coupon for a $10 item).

If you don’t have a few hours to sit in Herberger's, you can check out coupon books to sell to co-workers, friends, family, neighbors, etc.

Please contact Karla Hudson, hudsonrs@msn.com, 434-8171, or Christy Fry, cfry@mrpbike.com, 241-1398 if you are interested in helping out.

This is an easy way to make a great return for Caprock!

    Swine Flu Info

    2009-05-04

    Dear Parents,

We have received the following information from the Colorado Dept. of Education about H1N1 also known as the swine flu:

At this point, there have been a few cases of swine flu in Colorado.  There are many things you can to do preventing getting and spreading influenza.

     Prevention Recommendations from the CDC:

    • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
    • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way
    • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
    • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
    • Please remember, if you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

Information about the Swine Flu Outbreak at http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/

Principal Consultant - School Health Services

    Colorado Department of Education

    303-866-6779 phone or 303-866-6767 fax

We will be following these recommendations and if the need arises, the Guidelines for Education: Pandemic Readiness Plan that was created to address the specific needs of the schools in a pandemic situation. You may review this document on the Colorado Dept. of Education’s website, http://www.cde.state.co.us/cdesped/rss-nurse.asp#h1n1 .  We wanted you to be informed, but not alarmed.

    What Is Scrip?

Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for our organization.

How scrip generates revenue for you

The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of churches, schools and other non‑profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Our organization buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount ‑ from two to fifteen percent or more – is our organization’s revenue.

    Scrip is "shopping cart fundraising”

Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything. Organization members produce revenue by making regular household purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.

Ask your scrip coordinator listed below for the latest participating retailer list or visit www.shopwithscrip.com. Then put your shopping dollars to work for our organization!

ACTION ALERT: Support Using Race to the Top Funds for Education Reform in Colorado!
On July 24th, President Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan held a press conference to announce the release of the Administration's draft priorities and guidelines for the Race to the Top Grant competition.
Supporting public charter schools is a core component of Race to the Top, especially as an effective way to help turnaround our lowest performing public schools. Because Colorado has such a strong charter school law - it is in a good position to earn some of these important dollars! In fact, according to Governor Ritter's website:
Colorado is now involved in a public process that will result in a proposal to qualify for the Race to the Top funds, potentially $300-$500 million. This is an investment that could potentially transform our education system. The proposal will be submitted December 1, 2009.
Please contact President Obama, Vice President Biden, Secretary of Education Duncan and Governor Ritter and let them know the Colorado charter school community strongly supports the U.S. Department of Education's efforts to use Race to the Top funds to change restrictive state policies limiting effective teachers, high quality charter school growth, and broad based education reforms!
Click the link below to make your voice heard:
The Department of Education NEEDS to hear from the charter school community in support of their strong positions on education reform. Please make your voice heard by clicking the link below.

If you have any questions regarding this issue, or any public policy issue facing charter schools, please contact Sean Bradley, Director of Governmental Affairs at the Colorado League of Charter Schools at 303-989-5356 or sbradley@coloradoleague.org.
